Introduction from the Headteacher
Dear QEHS Community,
So, another highly successful academic year draws to a close, concluded by a typically productive Summer Term packed full of activity and achievement – I trust you would expect nothing less! This final newsletter of 2024-25 reviews a term bursting with triumphs and accolades, and affords you a wonderful insight into the fantastic contributions our students have made once again across the school community and beyond.
With the very many highlights during Term 6, it is something of a challenge to decide where to start? To begin with, it is appropriate to draw attention to the QEHS Sports Presentation Evening, where Harry was awarded the 2025 Sports Personality of the Year Award and is amongst a raft of other sporting youngsters who were rightly recognised for their commitment to school sports. It should also be noted that within a week of this presentation evening, the PE Department was awarded the Association for Physical Education Quality Mark with Distinction (2025-28) – a thoroughly well-deserved achievement which recognises the school’s commitment to ensuring sport and physical activity runs through both the taught curriculum as well as our wider co-curriculum offer. Secondly, let us consider the school’s attendance at the 140th Lincolnshire Show, with not just one but three teams entering the Schools’ Challenge Competition. In addition to picking up gold and two silver awards, the all-conquering ‘Power of Water’ group was selected to present to HRH Princess Anne. Hot on the heels of this audience with royalty was the ‘Soil Science’ group’s encounter with Matt Baker of One Show and Countryfile fame! Yet more trophies were in-coming just a few weeks later when the inaugural QEHS Industrial Cadets team scooped Bronze in this national STEM award. Finally, the summer production of ‘Oliver!’ deserves special mention. With a cast and crew comprising 80% Key Stage 3 students and, indeed, 30% Year 7 students with Eleanor (7C) taking on the lead role, it was a joy to see the exuberance and talent coming through the ranks of performers who, year on year, deliver such quality.
As the Summer Term draws to a close, we bid farewell to the following members of staff: Ms Muir (Assistant Headteacher & Teacher of Art) who is retiring after 18 years with us at QEHS; Mr Betts (Teacher of Sociology & Head of Year) who moves to a new teaching role at a 16-18 college after 12 years with us; Mr Downing (Teacher of Science) after 6 years who moves to begin a career supporting adult apprenticeships; Mr Lawrence (Second in Maths) who moves to a post-16 college following 5 and a half years at QEHS; Mrs Lia (SENDCo) who will be taking up the SENDCo position in the Independent sector after 4 and a half years; Mr Wood (Teacher of Humanities) who leaves us after 2 years supporting across Humanities; and Miss Wray (Teacher of English) who has covered a maternity leave in English. Thank you so much for all you have done during your time here at QEHS. Good luck and very best wishes for the next exciting stages of your professional and personal life journeys.
As you will see in this newsletter, and in fact across all of the newsletters this academic year, it is very clear that life at Queenies continues to be as vibrant, fulfilling and enriching as ever before. Accordingly, levels of academic success and personal development across the student body continues to go from strength to strength. What a wonderful school this truly is! This utterly unique educational experience can only be achieved as a consequence of strong and binding partnership between students, staff and families. The part you play as parents/guardians can never be underestimated, and I am personally incredibly grateful for everything you do to ensure the young people of Queen Elizabeth’s High School are as engaged, enthused and emotionally intelligent as we appreciate they are.
All best wishes for a sunny summer holiday.

Stansie wins the Saviour Award
Stansie C (9E) was recently awarded a Saviour Award for her quick thinking and bravery during the recent Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition.
While on the route between two checkpoints, one of her teammates suddenly tripped and was in visible distress. Despite being far from immediate help, Stansie remained calm, used her first aid knowledge, and applied her first aid kit to support and stabilise her teammate until help arrived. Her quick response made a real difference. Well done, Stansie!

Students selected to do the HPQ
Given the success of the Higher Project Qualification (HPQ) this academic year with current Year 9 students, it was with great excitement that the 2025/2026 cohort were selected. These current Year 8 students will embark on the GCSE qualification in September and complete it during Year 9. After discussions with subject staff and Tutors, these students were chosen due to their intellectual curiosity, independent research skills and desire to pursue academic excellence. They were all thrilled to have been invited to engage with the HPQ and their selection is testament to the hard work and firm foundations they have already laid during their time at QEHS. We are excited to watch them on their HPQ journey and we can’t wait to support them as they explore their individual projects.

Students receive a Bronze Teamwork Award
This term a number of Year 8 and 9 students were selected to complete a Bronze Industrial Cadet Award. This award is a national award that recognises young people’s achievements in STEM related projects and experiences. It is designed to inspire and connect young people with the STEM industry to offer them a chance to develop skills and explore career paths. The team have been mentored by an expert in the field, Mr Ken Hayhurst, and led in school by Mrs Viscomi.
As part of the project, the group were given the exciting opportunity to visit Eminox to see how STEM has an impact in industry. Eminox is a company which is pioneering a zero emissions future, they design and manufacture exhaust after treatment systems for heavy duty vehicles and equipment. During the visit, students were given a full factory tour, were introduced to all that Eminox does including apprenticeships, and completed some tasks related to global warming and climate change.
During the project, the team have had to design a sustainable new theme park for the future. The group explored some very innovative ideas for the theme park to include recycling aluminium cans, using solar and wind power to create energy, whilst ensuring the park was accessible to all. The group wrote an extensive report to share their ideas and took part in a virtual presentation where they presented their ideas to a panel of experts who then asked questions about the project. All students received some excellent feedback from the panel who were impressed by their report, as well as with their presenting skills. On top of this success, the students were successful in receiving a Bronze Teamwork Award. The assessors reasons for the nomination read:
‘This team demonstrated great teamwork; they allocated tasks to suit the team’s skills and interests. They showed good time management and planning and even included a Gantt chart! The team overcame problems as a group and supported one another well. A cohesive report was submitted, and they presented to the assessors very well.’

Bronze DofE
We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of 65 students who have successfully completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award this year. Each student has shown tremendous commitment across all areas of the award - Volunteering, Skills, and Physical Activities - with a huge variety of projects and pursuits undertaken. From learning new instruments to coaching sports, and from supporting Park Runs to charity shop work, the breadth of their involvement has been truly inspiring.
Together, our students have contributed an incredible 1,313 hours of volunteering, making a real and lasting impact on the wider community. Their dedication and compassion have not gone unnoticed and reflect the spirit of service at the heart of the DofE programme.
The highlight for many was the Bronze expedition in May, where students demonstrated impressive teamwork and resilience. Despite the odd navigational hiccup, all groups successfully completed their routes, cooked their own meals, and camped overnight. This was a brilliant achievement and a testament to their determination and growing independence.
We are incredibly proud of all our DofE participants and look forward to seeing them take on new challenges in the future!

As the evening progressed Mrs Snowden was invited to the stage to present the ‘QEHS Sport Leadership Award’ to our young and aspiring sport leaders. The students receiving this award were nominated as a result of showing outstanding Leadership for Learning in a variety of different ways in Physical Education and Sport. The students receiving this award were: Alfie J (9C), Isla M (12S), Crystal N (9S), Evelyn R (9D), Macy S (12S) and Jack W (8A).
The penultimate award of the evening was a special recognition award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to PE and School Sport’. Winners of this award are recognised for the longevity of their outstanding contribution to the QEHS PE Department. Winners of this award were Harry C (10E), Charles R (9B) and Sophie R (10E).
The final set of awards were presented by Mr Eastham and were the prestigious ‘QEHS Sport Personality of the Year’ awards for 2025. Third place in the QEHS Sport Personality of the Year was awarded to Phoebe B (8D). Phoebe has continually excelled since joining the school in September 2023 and has represented QEHS in a number of different activities and sports, rounders, athletics and football to name a few. Phoebe has a natural sporting ability which is complimented by a unique humility and steely determination to succeed. She is a role model for others in the school. The PE Department are extremely excited to see what else she can achieve and how she will develop as she moves into Year 9.
Phoebe is the U15 girls Nottinghamshire County Athletics Champion for Shot as well as now a mainstay in both the Gainsborough Trinity and Doncaster Elite Girls Football set ups.
Last year, Phoebe set the record for the youngest ever student to place in the top 3 of our Sport Personality of the Year award and she now holds the record for the most awards won in the first two years for a student at QEHS. I have no doubt that she will be in the reckoning for Sport Personality of the Year once again next year.
Second place in the QEHS Sport Personality of the Year was awarded to Niamh J (9A). Niamh is a student who immerses herself in all aspects of Physical Education and Sport, and consistently demonstrates a positive attitude in everything she does. Niamh is no stranger to Sport Presentation Evening, having scooped awards in previous years for outstanding effort and engagement in PE, as well as an outstanding contribution to PE and School Sport award.
Niamh has competed for school in a wide range of different activities and sports, having represented QEHS in no fewer than 7 different activities, in addition to her own personal endeavours as a highly successful gymnast. Not only is she an outstanding gymnast, she is also an exceptionally hard working student whom we have really high hopes for as she moves into Year 10 and beyond on her GCSE PE course.
QEHS Sports Personality of the Year Winner is Harry C (10E). Harry works exceptionally hard in everything he does and sets the standard for both himself and his class or teammates. Harry is also at the top of his game in sport, particularly in both football and cricket. His captaincy of the school cricket team, making on-field decisions around the bowling attack and fielding positions, combined with his proficiency with the bat has helped lead the U15s team to become winners of the Lincolnshire Cricket League, in our first year of entry.
Harry is also a mainstay in the Year 10 football team’s back three, only ever missing one game in order to watch Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.
Harry is a fierce competitor, in everything he does, but he is gracious in both victory or defeat, and his attitude and personality mean he fits right into the All Black culture Mr Fearn described at the beginning of Presentation Evening. Well done Harry!

Lincolnshire Show
On Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 June twenty students from Years 7-10 competed in the annual Lincolnshire Show School’s Challenge Competition. QEHS entered a record three groups in the competition this year. Students have been working on their competition entries since March, meeting one lunchtime a week with Mrs Spawton and Ms Worrell. Students had to research their chosen competition challenge, build a model, and develop a presentation.
We received the news a couple of weeks before the competition that our Power of Water challenge group had been chosen out of all of the secondary school groups who had entered to meet HRH Princess Anne. This truly was an honour! The students from this group delivered a very well-rehearsed presentation to Princess Anne. They engaged eloquently when answering her questions and they were able to demonstrate their working model, which addressed the problems of flooding in Lincolnshire. The students involved should be very proud of themselves. They were extremely mature when finding themselves in this unique position. The Power of Water group very deservedly won the Secondary School's Group One competition. This really topped off a wonderful day for the students in this group, after both presenting to HRH Princess Anne and delivering an outstanding presentation to the judges. A huge well done and thank you to Mrs Spawton for all of her hard work with this group. The students making up this group were: Alex M (10D), Mia W (10S), Isabelle B (10S), Zoe M (10D), Rahma K (8S) and Jessica S (8E).
The Soil Science group came a very respectable second in the Secondary School's Group Two. They presented really well to the judges on Thursday, and were a credit to both themselves and the school. The students in this group met Matt Baker (of The One Show and Countryfile fame). They were excited to show him their model field and explain the reasoning behind it. He was particularly impressed with their model sheep! The students in this group were: Alister J (10D), Grace M-B (10D), Brooklynne F (10B), Amy W (10D), Theodore S (8S), Tom C (8S), Lyla I (7B) and Emily D (7E). The City Farming group also secured an excellent second prize in the City Farming competition. The competition in this group was high, so they should also be extremely proud of themselves. This group had designed a garden and then grew the plants to make this become a reality. The students in this group were: Ethan S (9S), Jake H (9S), Joy M-B (9D), Finn O (9S), Thomas B (9S) and Charlie D (9S).
Both Mrs Spawton and I have commented that it's been so lovely to see each and every student develop in their own individual way during this competition. The confidence levels of the students have soared and they have become experts in their field, allowing them to present eloquently. It's also been so nice to see the students support each other and develop new friendships. We are incredibly proud of all of the students.
QEHS also provided a series of interactive activities for primary school children on the QEHS Marketing Stand over the two day show. The stand was also located in the Exo Centre building. The activities included pH testing of soil, viewing different soil samples under microscopes and examining leaf litter for invertebrates. The Marketing Stand was run by Mrs Roberts, Mr Hearnshaw and Mr Fong. They were very ably supported by some of Year 12 ambassadors. Thanks to Isla M (12S), Macy S (12S), Emiko M (12D), Anna B (12B) and Sydney H (12D) for engaging the younger students in our stand and teaching them new skills.
A special thank you must also go to Mrs Roberts, Ms Howe and Mr Foster for their help with the model making and equipment for the stands, as we simply could not have done it without them. Their help and expertise has once again allowed us to retain the School’s Group One Challenge trophy.

Year 9 Design & Technology Students Explore Innovation at the Lincolnshire Show
On a bright and bustling day in June, our Year 9 Design & Technology students had the fantastic opportunity to visit the Lincolnshire Show - an annual celebration of agriculture, food, rural life, and innovation in our region.
The trip provided students with a hands-on experience and engaging look at how design and technology are shaping the future of farming, engineering, and manufacturing. From cutting-edge machinery demonstrations to sustainable product showcases, the event was packed with real-world examples of the subjects we explore in the classroom.
Highlights included visiting the Education Zone, where students took part in interactive STEM activities, explored career paths in engineering and product design, and met local businesses showcasing eco-friendly products and new technologies. Many were particularly inspired by the innovative use of recycled materials in product packaging and the demonstrations of CAD/CAM in modern manufacturing processes.
As well as fuelling inspiration for upcoming D&T projects, the day also offered a wider appreciation of how design and technology are applied in everyday life and across different industries and particularly those central to our region's economy.
Thank you to all the staff and organisers involved, and to the students who represented the school so brilliantly. We look forward to seeing how this experience will influence their ideas and creativity in future design work.

Year 8 World of Work Day
All of Year 8 took part in a ‘World of Work Day’ on the last day of Term 5. Local employers and staff visited school to run a variety of workshops to give Year 8 a taste of a variety of careers. Students took part in a CSI style workshop run by Lincolnshire police where students solved a case and even had a go at fingerprinting. Wilkin Chapman Rollits law and Wright Vigar accountants ran workshops where students gained an insight in to the work of accountancy and family law, whilst our very own staff ran workshops on fire safety and creating and marketing plant pots. The students enjoyed the day learning many new skills and gaining an insight in to careers they may pursue when they are older. Huge thanks to all the local employers and staff that supported the day.

Year 6 Transition Evening - Music Market
On Thursday 26 June the Music Department hosted the 2025 Music Market, an evening for our upcoming Year 7 students to try out musical instruments. With a summer festival vibe, the Music Market showcased the peripatetic lessons we offer, alongside a range of high-quality live performances by the students. Mr Smith was positioned in his own room, with a full range of percussion instruments and equipment, giving demonstrations and workshops throughout the evening. Meanwhile, in the Recital Room, Mrs Kitchener was inspiring upcoming students to take up the piano. Mr Poole’s guitar room was constantly busy, and Mrs Lawrence and Miss Kocholova where on hand to answer questions about music lessons at QEHS. Our outside stalls featured many of the instruments available in school, including voice, violin, viola, cello, trumpet, trombone, flute, saxophone, clarinet and harp. Our current students gave enthusiastic demonstrations for the visitors, and were happy to help with any questions.
The Music Market evening was very well attended by our upcoming Year 7s and their families, and our own passionate students hoping to pass on their love for the department. Our student-led Swing Band performed throughout the evening, which set a wonderful jazz background to the event, and other students sang duets or gave solo performances, which culminated in an eclectic range of performances!
A fantastic, vibrant, musical evening was had by all! If you have any questions about starting music lessons, please contact us at [email protected].

Fusion Energy Comes to QEHS: A Glimpse into the Future
Nuclear fusion is a hot topic in the UK’s scientific landscape, and our school is right at the heart of it. The government has recently announced a record £2.5bn to support the world’s first prototype nuclear fusion power plant, STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production), which is currently in development at West Burton Power Station - just a stone’s throw from our school.
On Tuesday 10 June, representatives from Fusion CDT (Fusion Centre for Doctoral Training) visited QEHS to deliver an inspiring session for our Year 8 students. These experts, all directly involved in the STEP project, specialise in areas such as turbulence studies within reactors, computer modelling of plasma behaviour, high-temperature materials engineering, and robotics. Their engaging presentation introduced students to the fundamentals of nuclear fusion, the STEP reactor, and even included a hands-on robotics session, making advanced science feel accessible and exciting.
Students were fortunate to learn about a ground-breaking scientific project happening in their own community, directly from professionals shaping the future of clean energy. With STEP expected to be operational by 2040, it could create fantastic career opportunities for QEHS students, offering them a chance to be part of the next wave of innovation.

Geography Department Fieldtrips - Summer 2025
Everyone remembers their Geography fieldtrips – from their school days! Geography helps students to understand the world they live in and field trips are a great way of bringing theory to life. Term 6 has been a busy time for the Geography Department with visits to Withernsea and Hubbard’s Hills near Louth.
On Friday 6 June, Year 10 students enjoyed a day of Physical Geography in Withernsea. This trip was a compulsory part of their GCSE studies with students were surveying the beach defences and beach profiles. The aim of the day was to determine whether the coastal defences were working, it came of something of a relief to discover that, to a large extent, they were!
On Tuesday 10 and Thursday 12 June, students in Year 7 visited Hubbard’s Hills, an area of natural beauty and a unique glacial overspill channel formed as the result of the last ice age and now providing a wonderful park for the people of Louth. The students measured the characteristics of the chalk stream that runs through the park. They used surveying techniques to record the width and depth of the channel, the velocity of the water and the size of the sediment in order to identify changes as the river progressed downstream. The weather was beautiful, as was the valley and despite a lot of wellies full of water, the students had a marvellous time and learnt a great deal.

QEHS School Production - 'Oliver!'
This year’s school musical, Oliver!, was nothing short of spectacular, showcasing the extraordinary talent and dedication of our students—particularly the remarkable cast and crew indeed, Years 7 to 9, made up 80% of the production team! In a historic first, the lead role of Oliver was played by a Year 7 student, Eleanor S (7C), whose heartfelt performance captivated audiences and set the tone for a truly memorable show.
From the opening notes of “Food, Glorious Food” to the rousing finale on London Bridge, the production was bursting with energy, colour, and emotion. Dance routines for “Pick a Pocket”, “Consider Yourself”, and “Food Glorious Food” were choreographed and performed with infectious enthusiasm, drawing cheers from the audience. The period costumes were stunning, transporting us straight into the heart of Victorian London.
Standout performances included an ever amiable portrayal of Dodger, a chilling portrayal of Bill Sykes, suitably dark and menacing, and powerful renditions of “My Name” and “As Long As He Needs Me”, which left a lasting impression. The student-led direction from Saskia H (10B) brought a fresh, creative vision to the stage, while the beautifully designed set, crafted by Year 9 Design & Technology students, added depth and authenticity to every scene.
“Oom-Pah-Pah” brought the house down with its lively spirit, and the final performance on Friday ended with a well-deserved standing ovation, a testament to the hard work and passion poured into every rehearsal and performance.
This production of ‘Oliver!’ was more than just a school play, it was a celebration of young talent, teamwork, and the magic of theatre. Bravo to all involved!

Go Festival
On Saturday 14 June, Isabelle A, Amelie T, Maisie D and Georgiana T (7S) represented the school at Go Festival in Gainsborough Town Centre. This year, the theme was 'Go With The Flow'. The girls choreographed their own dance to the song 'River' by Bishop Briggs and performed to a busy town centre of spectators.
Isabelle said ‘I really enjoyed dancing with my friends, and I think we did really well in the dance and representing our school’
Other student feedback included:
‘Participating in the event and representing our school was a valuable and enjoyable experience. I appreciated the opportunity to perform in front of an audience and to see a variety of acts, including both local and international performances.’
‘Attending the festival was inspiring, and I enjoyed watching the previous acts as well as our school's performances.’
‘I had a wonderful time at Go Festival. Our team practiced extensively to prepare for our dance performance, which helped us feel confident and ready. I truly enjoyed the experience and would be happy to participate again.’
‘Overall, attending Go Festival was very enjoyable. Performing was incredibly rewarding, and I appreciated the opportunity to support and watch performances from other participants, including some that allowed audience participation. Being part of Go Festival was a memorable and positive experience.’
‘The town was bustling, and the audience was highly supportive. Several performers engaged with the audience, which was both enjoyable and a bit humorous (for example, Mr. Rigby dancing with a fishing rod).’
‘QEHS showcased a diverse range of singing and dancing acts, all aligned with the theme "Go With The Flow." It was an excellent opportunity to collaborate with professionals in the arts industry.’
Mr. Rigby and Mrs. Lawrence were immensely proud of all the performers and are already looking forward to our next community event, the Christmas Lights Switch-On.

Year 11 Prom
The Year 11 Prom is a milestone in every student’s school career. After months of revision followed by sitting, what are by anyone’s standards a gruelling set of exams, Year 11 students finally get to let their hair down and have a well-deserved celebration. Hemswell Court Hotel once again provided the perfect venue for the event, steeped in history and beautifully maintained. Students arrived at the Prom in style: tractors; Ferraris; a go-kart and even a horse were the order of the day. After dinner Mr Allan and Mr Johnson awarded prizes and the students tested their skills against Mr Johnson’s homemade skittle alley and other games. It was a wonderful evening and our heartfelt thanks go to Mr Johnson for the huge amount of thought and energy that he put into the organisation of the Prom and to the staff of Hemswell Court who made it a wonderful evening. Good luck Year 11, we will miss you!

Deputy Headteacher

Year 13 Prom
The Year 13 Prom is a rite of passage not to be missed and one which celebrates the not inconsiderable milestone of completing a long primary and secondary school career. After what can only be described as the most important exams of a student’s life, being the gateway for higher education and higher apprenticeships, our Year 13 gathered at The Crown Hotel, Bawtry. Students looked fabulous in their head turning Dinner Jackets and Ball Gowns, taking advantage of a lovely warm evening to enjoy the outside garden for catching up with friends and teachers, amidst the lure of the dancefloor and the finery on offer at the barbecue. It was a wonderful evening and one to be truly remembered as a celebration of a fine year group. Thanks must go to Mrs Housham and to the staff at The Crown for creating a wonderful event.
We will truly miss you Year 13 but our memories of your conduct, humour and kindness will live long into the future. Good luck with the next stage of your life journey and the exciting times you have ahead.

Head of Year 13

Amelia's Scuba Diving Success
Amelia W (8S) was already an Advanced Open Water Diver, but she has now studied even further and has been tested in theory and practical tests as a Stress & Rescue Specialty Diver. This involves recognising dangers and problems with herself and other divers to assist in their well-being and conduct rescues of conscious or unconscious divers.
In addition to the above, Amelia has also completed the React Right Speciality Diver programme that involved gaining practical and theoretical training and knowledge to act as a first responder in a medical emergency. The course involves primary assessment, first aid, CPR and primary stabilisation techniques as well as administering oxygen in diving emergencies and use an AED.
Furthermore, due to the multiple specialities Amelia has undertaken she was also awarded her Speciality Diver Certification which recognises the aforementioned specialities plus Drysuit Diver and EAN (Enriched Air Nitrox) Diver that involves safely analysing and diving with Oxygen mixtures up to 40%.
Amelia is also currently learning about the Science of Diving, which relates to the laws of physics and how they influence different gases in relation to scuba diving. Upon completing this very in-depth module, Amelia will gain recognition as a Master Diver, which is the highest recognition in recreation diving. Amelia will hopefully complete this course in the next 2-3 weeks.
QEHS and Amelia's parents are extremely proud of Amelia's achievements. Well done!

International Symposium on Teaching Einsteinian Physics (ISTEP)
QEHS was represented on the international stage this term as our Science Technician Mr McInerney was invited to the University of Western Australia, Perth, to present at the International Symposium on Teaching Einsteinian Physics over 10 - 12 July 2025.
This symposium was organised by the Einstein-First project and aimed to bring together educators, researchers and policy makers for open discussion around integrating concepts from modern science into school curricula. Mr McInerney was invited to present research, which he performed alongside Physics students at QEHS, on how well students from different year groups understood the ideas behind Albert Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity, and where this material may be best placed in a more modern school curriculum.
Representatives from educational institutes across Australia, USA, China, Thailand, Denmark, Brazil, Norway and the UK were in attendance and the symposium was packed full of presentations on teaching methods, professional development, practical teaching ideas, educational research and panel discussions.
Video recordings from the symposium are available from the ‘Past Events’ section of the Einstein-First website (https://www.einsteinianphysics.com/), with Mr McInerney’s presentation listed under Day 2, Session 3-4.

Year 7 RE Progress
Over half term, Year 7 students were busy working on the theme 'The Art of Belief'. Alongside their work in lessons looking at how art is used in worship they have had a Home Learning project on stained glass windows; researching their history and then creating one of their own.
In recognition of their hard work Mrs Player had the following feedback to offer:
‘I wanted to take a moment to express how impressed I am with the outstanding work you produced for your home learning project on stained glass windows. Your efforts and submissions were truly exceptional, and I'm delighted to see the passion and dedication you brought to this fascinating topic.
Working on projects from home can present a number of challenges, yet you all rose to the occasion with creativity and enthusiasm, The quality of your research of stained glass artistry has been remarkable.
Thank you for your hard work, creativity and commitment to learning. I look forward to seeing what you will achieve in our next project.’

Empowering Students Through Poetry
At the end of term 5, a number of our Year 7 and Year 8 students entered the Young Writers Empowered - Echoes of Expression national poetry competition. This competition aimed to give students across the country the opportunity to express themselves in response to something they felt passionate about in order to empower them themselves through expression and to continue developing their confidence in their QEHS English journey.
The final results of the competition are yet to be announced, but a phenomenal number of students were selected to be published by the Young Writers team and will, after receiving parental permission, feature in the final published anthology:

Success at the Pre-loved Uniform Year 6 Taster Evening
On Wednesday 2 July, as part of our Year 6 Taster Days, we were delighted to welcome parents and guardians to our Pre-loved Uniform Evening in the Studio Café.
The evening provided families with the chance to browse a wide range of preloved uniform items, from blazers and skirts to PE kit. The response from parents was overwhelmingly positive, with many parents taking the opportunity to make the most of our pre-loved uniform system.
Not only did the event support families in getting ready for their child’s transition to secondary school, but it also reinforced our commitment to reducing waste and promoting an eco-friendly approach within the school community.
We are so grateful to everyone who donated uniform items and to the staff and other members of the Sixth Form Senior Team who gave their time to organise and run the evening.
We would like to continue to encourage parents and students to make the most of this scheme. If any students would like to access the pre-loved uniform, or if you have any questions regarding the preloved store, please contact Miss Clark at [email protected].
