16-19 Tuition Fund

What is the 16-19 Tuition Fund?
The 16 to 19 Tuition Fund is ring-fenced funding for schools, colleges and all other 16 to 19 institutions who receive annual funding allocations from ESFA for the provision of 16 to 19 education to mitigate the disruption to learning arising from coronavirus (COVID-19).

QEHS Use of the 16-19 Tuition Fund
DfE guidance sets out that funding provided to QEHS to support catch-up requirements resulting from the Coronavirus outbreak should be used to support those students that have not yet achieved level 4 or 5 in either GCSE English or Maths and/or are from an economically disadvantaged background. The funding is to provide broad assistance to help targeted students to complete their overall programmes successfully.

QEHS is using the funding to provide additional staffing to work specifically with an identified group of students. We will identify students particularly at risk, for example because there is evidence of possible underachievement, because they struggled to engage with distance learning during lockdown, because there are identified challenges in terms of motivation, organisation or study skills or because students need support to develop aspirations and plans for their next steps Post-18.

The identified group of students will be provided with:

  • One-to-one and small group tuition via either an online tutor sourced by school or internally staffed through evening sessions. The online tutoring will be with university students (third party provider) who will tailor the support to match the needs of our students who have been adversely affected by the pandemic.
  • Bespoke support for small groups or individual students where help is required with progression, organisation, study skills, mental health or any other areas that will promote successful next steps. For Year 13 students, the impact of this provision will be judged by reviewing the proportion of the group that fully complete their programmes by considering measures of their attainment and progress and by reviewing the destinations of students upon completion. For Year 12 students, the impact of this provision will be judged by reviewing the proportion of students that progress to the second year of study and by considering evidence of academic progress.

Accountability
QEHS will ensure that the 16-19 Tuition Fund is used in accordance with the ESFA guidance. This statement sets out how the fund will be used to support the most disadvantaged students and will be published on the school website. All use of these funds will be recorded and evidence of the tuition provided for students will be retained in support of this.
